London Freemasons Join the Fight to Change the Face of Mens Health
This Autumn, Metropolitan Grand Lodge and Chapter are proud to announce their support for Movember – the global movement dedicated to changing the face of men’s health. In partnership with the London Freemasons’ Charity (LFC), we will launch a Metropolitan-wide appeal, with the LFC generously pledging to match every pound raised, up to an incredible £100,000.
Movember began in Australia in 2003, when a small group of friends decided to grow moustaches for a month to raise awareness of men’s health issues. Since then, the movement has expanded worldwide, funding over 1,250 projects focused on mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
For London Freemasons, this is a chance to unite Lodges and Chapters in a shared cause, with the added benefit that every donation is doubled by the LFC. “The London Freemasons’ Charity is delighted to support this important initiative”, says VW Bro Stratton Richey, Chairman of the LFC. “Men’s health issues can affect any of us, our families, and our friends. By providing match funding, we aim to encourage as many Brethren as possible to get involved and make a real impact.”
Participation is open to all Brethren, as well as their families and friends. Growing a moustache is the most recognisable symbol of Movember, but there are other ways to get involved – such as taking on a Move Challenge by walking or running 60 km during November, representing the 60 men lost to suicide globally every hour. Others may choose to host a social or fundraising event or simply make a donation. Every effort counts, and every contribution will be doubled, up to £100,000, meaning the impact of your support is immediately doubled.
“This appeal gives us a perfect opportunity to do something positive together,” says W. Bro Will Clayton, Movember Appeal Manager. “With the LFC’s £100,000 match funding pledge, every step, every moustache, and every pound raised will go twice as far in supporting men’s health.”
Further details will be shared with Lodges and Chapters in September and October, along with information on how those wishing to take part can get involved. Look out for updates in upcoming communications, on social media and Second Risings. Together, we can all help change the face of men’s health and continue to show the world what London Freemasonry can achieve when we unite behind a cause.
